A Prayer of Love for those who are Suffering
From my journal - March 29, 2006
Dearest Jesus,
I have so enjoyed these hours soaking in Your presence. It is such a blessed and treasured gift. How can I ever repay you, or thank you enough for the indescribable love we share between us? It is more real than any earthly love, more perfect in every way.
I was weary today, unable to find relief from the terrible pain. It would seem to be a long day of suffering, were it not for Your presence. I could not feel You there at first, but I never doubted Your presence. I suffered with patience as I held on to You.
Then You led me to read parts of a book (Within the Gates, by Rebecca Springer), a beautiful book describing the wondrous glories and love You have waiting for me on the Other Side. The pain faded in the beautiful thoughts and visions of Your splendor. Oh, my precious Jesus, I can hardly wait for that day when I will see You face to face. I shall throw my arms around You, and we shall embrace at last.
All these years You have loved me. I have failed You, and gone my own way many times, yet Your love has never wavered. My imperfect heart has erred many times, yet You have loved me all the more. Through all the years, our love has grown. First I loved You with all the purity and simplicity of a child’s love for a parent. Then I learned to confide in You as a dearest friend, and yet, our love grew beyond what any earthly friendship could afford.
For You, the great King of the entire universe, have brought me near to Your own heart of love. Surly, this is the greatest love possible. Your love is intimate, personal, and free, without inhibitions or criticism, for You love me entirely as I am.
Dear Jesus, I wish that all the world could feel this love. I thank You from the bottom of my heart for this affliction, for this pain, that has brought me so near to You. It is worth it all if I can help just one struggling, suffering soul to know the freedom of Your love.
Set them free, My love. Set them free from the suffering of this world. Give them glimpses into Your Heavenly realm. Let the gifts and treasures of Your blessed presence sustain them, ease their pain, and comfort their hearts.
Don’t let them suffer in vain. Help them, even now, to reach out a hand to You, to ‘touch the hem of Your garment’ (Luke 8:43-48) and find the healing they seek. Be real to them. Break through the barriers of our earthly realm, and let Your light flow freely into our darkened lives.
There are so many suffering. I wish I could comfort them all. You have blessed me so richly with this love, even in the midst of my suffering. Please, somehow, enable me to pass it on to those in need. Comfort them all. Let Your love shower down on them like the rain, to refresh their spirits and strengthen their hearts.
They are so brave. They have fought so well, under unimaginable circumstances. You are so proud of them. Many a crushing weight has borne down on their souls, threatening to block out the light of hope. Reach under them now, and lift their burdens. Be their strong help in time of trouble. Place a smile on their faces, and a song of praise in their hearts. Transform their suffering into a blessing in their lives, a place of growth and comfort.
I thank You that You have heard me, and that You have loved them, even as You have loved me. Give them now that peace to trust You, to believe Your Word, and rest steady on Your promises. Help Your wonderful light to overshadow the darkness. Replace fear with faith. Bring out the beauty in their lives. Bless us all with Your peace.
I am forever indebted to You, my Friend and my Love.
--Amen
